No man may know about thy past
Thy secrets are all hid in thee
Thy salty waters hold it fast
The secrets of the Salton Sea.
Thy mirror face reflects the heat
Of desert waste and rock beyond
As faithless Christian may repeat
The word of truth they might have donned.
Oh tell me of thy past some more
And of thy unproductive coast
Was it perchance an ocean floor
How high in water canst thou boast?
I see the mark upon yon hill
What made the rugged shore recede
If flood these vales and valley fill
Is there no message we may read?
Why is brine needful why the salt?
Is there some salty pocket near?
Is this where sin was made to halt?
Is it some wicked city's bier?
Is there connection to the sea
By channels hidden neath our view?
Was Angel tears shed here for me
Because I failed and was untrue?
Ah, yes how sad because we fail
For Eden had no desert land
The earth was marred, the Angels wail
It was too much for them to stand.
Rivers of tears ran from them
But very soon it will be o’re
Nothing but peace will weeping stem
Oh, for that joy on heavens shore.
